I had no idea that Chevy hand a concept called the Chevy Volt MPV. I actually kind of dig it.

It's based on the Orlando, if I recall correctly. Supposed to have competed with the Prius V

I almost forgot about this! They should make it compete with the Prius V :) And soon, the Tesla...

Edit: I like the rear glass door. I wish they put rear facing jump seats in there...or you could flatten all the seats, make a bed and camp in it on the edge of a cliff for a view :)

Honestly... I'm not sure. I would hope that it does. It reminds me a lot of the Chevy Orlando that they sell up here in Canada. It has a full three rows of seating: http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/veh…

Either rear facing seats or flat folding seats would be awesome.

Honestly, I'm really liking the idea of plug-in hybrid, and my wife is thinking of our soon-to-be expanding family. Something like this would totally be the ticket.

I'm glad they didn't keep the piano black plastic above the belt line. (Couldn't the Volt just be happy with its smaller windows instead of pulling McLaren shenanigans?) I want to like "new GM" but their interiors are still so terrible. If they are going to use plastic for the interiors, can they cut it out with the fake texturing, it just feels purposefully cheap. Flat plastic, even when done poorly just feels so much nicer, and when done well can almost be velvety smooth. It does look a lot better than the i3. I say skip the MPV and turn it into an estate.

Given that the concept was from 2010, I doubt it will actually see the market now. Maybe they have considered doing that with the Volt 2.0. Here's to hoping!

I'm all about functionality, and something like this would have plenty - especially if it had a full three-row seating (and if those seats folded flat or could be removed). Not sure how that'd work with the T-shaped battery from the original Volt though.

It's interesting that you mention the i3. I think the rear actually looks quite similar, in a strange sort of way.

The current Volt doesn't seem that bad, except maybe for the rear visibility (so I hear). This would definitely be more practical, though.

Friend of a friend has a Volt. I've had a chance to poke around the interior a little. Visibility isn't terrible , but about on par with anything else that's come out in the last decade or so. The slanted rear glass kills a lot of the usable rear cargo space, though. I get that it's an aero thing, but you already lose a lot of space back there because the rear cargo floor is up high.

With the van shape, even with a high rear cargo floor, you'd at least get some more vertical space.
